I've been away long enough!
I recently became an elementary & middle school librarian!! I found out I got the job a whopping FIVE days before school started, so I've been scrambling these last weeks to become comfortable in my new role.
After some growing pains the first couple of weeks, I've settled in quite nicely. I have kids from age 4 to 14, so I have the pleasure of experiencing the full gamut of children's and young adult literature on a daily basis. My upper elementary and middle school students are enjoying my read alouds right now.
We're reading The Magician's Elephant by Kate DiCamillo (5th grade), Loser by Jerry Spinelli (6th grade), Coraline by Neil Gaiman (7th grade), and City of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau (8th grade).

Congratulations on the job! Now you can take the "in training" out of your blog header. ;) Great read-along choices too!
Congrats on getting the job. I graduated with my MLIS about a month ago and still haven't had any luck! :)
Wow! Congratulations!! I graduated a little while ago and just moved and no such luck. I will keep trying though!
Welcome back and congratulations on the sweet new job!! I'd love to hear more about it when you have time to post!
Thank you, that was extremely valuable and interesting...I will be back again to read more on this topic.
Congrats - that's great news!!
What a cool job!!! It sounds like you guys are reading some great books :)
I've been pretty much MIA myself lately but wanted to drop in to congratulate you for landing a great sounding job! My daughter started grade 4 this year but has already read Coraline (she says the book is waaay better than the movie!) and City of Ember ... maybe she should work her way back through your list. ;)
I can totally empathize: I was hired as an English teacher on a Friday, and school started Tuesday. And I had to move. And I had 3 new preps! But, like you, I am so thankful to have a job!
Glad to hear it is going well and that you get to interact with so many great kids and books!
Congrats on the new job! It sounds like a lot of fun.
Fantastic blog, I hadn't noticed bookshelfmonstrosity.blogspot.com before in my searches!
Keep up the superb work!
Congratulations for the job ;)
That sounds like an incredibly awesome job. Settling in sure does take time, but wow, nice books! I hope you enjoy those kiddos to death. Not actually to death. Figuratively.
Congratulations on your new position--hope it works out well and I'm sure it will be fun turning on those young minds to great adventures.
Glad you're enjoying your new job. I love YA books. The kids are fun too.
Thats a dream job for many. AWESOME!
